Privacy policy
Last updated: 7 October 2026
EDEL PDF was built so that your documents stay on your computer. This policy explains, in plain words, what data the app and this website handle, where it goes, and your rights.
1. Who we are
EDEL PDF and edelpdf.com are provided by EDEL Group (EDELGRP), Switzerland ("we"). Contact: [email protected]. We apply the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where it applies, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
2. The app: your documents stay on your computer
- Your PDFs and everything you do with them (editing, annotating, signing, PDF to Word, OCR) are processed on your computer only. We never receive your files. EDEL PDF has no account and no cloud storage.
- Your signatures are stored on your computer only.
- Your licence key is stored on your computer.
3. What leaves your computer, and when
- Updates: the app checks GitHub, where our installers are published, for a new version. As with any download, GitHub sees your IP address.
- Activity check and trial: while the app is running, it checks in with edelpdf.com at start and every 30 minutes. The message contains an anonymous code for the computer (a one-way hash of its system ID, which can't be traced back to you), the app version, Windows or Mac, and whether it's a trial or a licence. We keep this with the approximate place of your internet connection (city and country, derived from the connection; the IP address itself is not stored) to count how many computers use the app and to keep the 30-day trial fair. No name, email address or file is sent. We delete a computer's record 24 months after it was last seen.
- Licence: if you enter a licence key, the app sends it to edelpdf.com, which confirms it with Lemon Squeezy, our payment and licensing provider. We store only a one-way code of the key, never the key itself. One licence works on all your computers: each further computer must be activated from the same internet connection as one of your others, so for each licensed computer we also keep a one-way code of its internet connection (never the IP address itself).
4. Buying a licence
Purchases are handled by Lemon Squeezy (Lemon Squeezy LLC), which acts as the merchant of record: it processes your payment, collects VAT and sends your licence key. Lemon Squeezy receives your name, email address, billing country and payment details under its own privacy policy. We receive your name, email, country and order details to provide support and refunds. We never see your full card details.
5. This website
- No cookies and no third-party trackers. We count visits anonymously on our own server: the page viewed, where you came from, time on page, how far you scrolled, which buttons were clicked, your country, device type, browser and operating system.
- No IP addresses are stored. A visitor is identified by a one-way code made from the day, your IP address and your browser, which changes every day. We can't follow you from one day to the next, and can't identify you.
- If your browser sends "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control", page visits aren't counted.
- The website is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes technical connection data (such as IP addresses) to deliver and protect the site.
6. Email
If you write to us, we use your message and email address only to reply, and keep them as long as needed for that conversation and any legal obligation.
7. How long we keep data
App check-ins: 24 months after a computer was last seen. Anonymous visit statistics: up to 24 months. Purchase records: as long as required by Swiss accounting law (10 years). Support emails: as long as needed to help you. Everything in the app stays on your computer until you delete it.
8. Your rights
You can ask us what data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to its use, or receive a copy, by writing to [email protected]. You can also complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) or, in the EU, to your local data protection authority.
9. Changes
If this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
